VAR-SOM-MX91 Premiere Soon

VAR-SOM-MX91 Premiere Soon
VAR-SOM-MX91 is the latest System-on-Module from Variscite, which was recently demonstrated for the first time at the COMPUTEX 2023 conference in Taipei, as part of NXP's announcement of the upcoming i.MX 91 SoC. This is another example of excellent cooperation between these companies and the opportunity to offer the latest NXP technology to a wide audience through a mid-level integrator, which in this case is the module manufacturer - Variscite.

Technical parameters

VAR-SOM-MX91 offers a solution for cost-sensitive projects based on embedded systems such as IoT, sensors, smart home, industrial controllers and measurement systems. The SoM is based on the NXP i.MX91 1.4 GHz Arm® Cortex®-A55 processor and includes 2 GB of LPDDR4 memory, dual Gigabit Ethernet, dual CAN-FD, dual USB, audio input/output, ADC, display and certified single- or dual-band Wi-Fi, BT/BLE with integrated EdgeLock® Secure Enclave and is available in a version for the industrial temperature range.

The upcoming SoM is functionally similar to the recently developed VAR-SOM-MX93 based on the NXP i.MX 93. Both platforms support features such as CAN bus, GbE, are adapted to industrial operating temperatures and have pin compatibility with the VAR-family of products SOM Pin2Pin. At the same time, VAR-SOM-MX91 offers a slightly slimmer specification to further optimize system costs.

VAR-SOM-MX91 Starter Kit

The Variscite VAR-SOM Pin2Pin product family provides easy scaling between SoMs with different processors and performance, using the same backplane design. This product family supports a wide range of chipsets, from entry-level (i.MX6 UltraLite), through i.MX6, i.MX 8M/Mini/Nano/Plus, i.MX93 and AM625x, to high-performance platforms such as i. MX 8X and i.MX 8QuadMax. The use of Pin2Pin series systems in the project allows for the potential extension of the market life of the product, shortening the development time of the device, reducing costs and risk.

"Variscite is pleased to leverage its early access to NXP application processors by launching the SoM solution concurrently with NXP's release of the i.MX 91 processor. We continue to set the market standard for reliability, scalability and price," said Ofer Austerlitz, vice president of Variscite. business development and sales in Variscite. "With VAR-SOM-MX91, we are able to provide a solution for cost-sensitive designs with rich connectivity and scalability within our pin2pin family."

Availability and durability

The evaluation kits are expected to be available later this year and will be released concurrently with the NXP i.MX 91 processor. VAR-SOM-MX91 is part of Variscite's long-term long-term availability plan. The manufacturer will provide at least 15 years of purchase and support for this module.
